I love love love working with Melissa Goodrich.

She hurls herself into drafts — she inhabits them, I believe. Melissa hears (and feels) the voice, she feels (and hears) the pulse, she finds (and hangs out with) its beating heart. Her detailed, constructive feedback is as artful as it is energizing ... the way her beautiful fiction and poetry are.

Exactly what you are looking for.

what mentorship looks like

Are you looking for a compassionate guide to help you discover new ideas for writing? We can do that. Need a rigorous series of prompts, assignments, and deadlines? We can do that too. Maybe you’re polishing a chapbook collection before a contest submission or starting a new book from scratch.

Whatever you need, I am here for it!

I generally meet with my mentees weekly or bi-weekly, for as short as a few weeks to as long as a year. We begin with an intake session to get a sense of your needs and the scope of your project, and build from there.

I’m happy to take on full-length manuscripts, MFA application, and special projects as well. I work at an hourly rate or by project and am open to as long or a short of a mentorship as you require. Check out my rates and please get in touch!

Classic Workshop

What workshop looks like

Maybe you aren’t seeking a long-term mentorship, but want some compassionate feedback on an individual story or a handful of poems or flash. That’s what workshop is for!

I offer comprehensive letters, manuscript notes, follow-up conversations by email, phone, or video call, discussion of revision strategies, suggestions of where to place your work, and more.

My turnaround time is generally 1-2 weeks.
